Trucking in Canada is an essential service, critical to the supply chain and keeping stores stocked with food and goods of all kinds. While this has always been true, it’s become even more evident during COVID-19 that trucking in Canada plays an important role in our day to day lives that should never be overlooked.
Goods are shipped across provinces by top-rated trucking companies like ours every hour of the day, with hundreds of millions of dollars worth of products moving across Canada day in and day out. What’s more, is the amount that flows from trucking in Canada to and from the United States of America. Our southern neighbour sees a lot of license plates from Canadian trucking companies like Dolphin Delivery, with over $2 billion flowing across the border every single day.
Earlier in the year at the start of the coronavirus pandemic, the Canadian Trucking Association suggested that as an essential service provider, employees of trucking companies in Canada should be given special permits or letters so that they could easily identify themselves when crossing provinces and territories, accessing essential infrastructure, or stopping to use the restroom or a rest stop facility. The head of the CTA, Stephen Laskowski, went on to say the following.
“The ability for truck drivers and other essential workers that support the trucking industry to be able to move seamlessly as part of their regular work duties, or between work and home is critical. This letter is a key piece in allowing that uninterrupted movement of the supply chain.”
While these permits and letters may not have ultimately been made necessary, what was made certain to all Canadians is the importance of a healthy supply chain. All it took was one trip to the grocery store with empty shelves on display for people to realize how important the trucking industry in Canada is to everyday Canadians. We need food, toilet paper, PPE, and other essential products to operate as a healthy society, and the trucking industry makes the stocking of such household staples possible.
The delivery of consumers staples, masks, protective equipment, and other products is essential to a strong economy and a healthy country in general. As one of the best trucking companies in BC, we’re committed to serving our country and delivering goods on time. It’s our honour to help serve Canadians every day, especially when duty calls. Here’s what Geoff Wood, the senior VP of Policy at the CTA said about trucking companies in Canada and their role in these challenging times.
“CTA appreciates this guidance material and the continued recognition of the hard-working men and women in the trucking industry as an essential part of the nation’s fight against COVID-19.”
Transportation services in Canada and the transportation sector includes more than just truck drivers. Dolphin has been rated a top transportation company in Vancouver, British Columbia, and as essential workers, we look forward to keeping your shelves stocked and the supply chain moving forward throughout the pandemic and in the years to follow.
