Safe Driving Tips From the Pros at Dolphin Delivery

At Dolphin Delivery, we care about a lot of things. Making sure that our deliveries arrive on time. Keeping costs down for our customers. Hiring the best drivers. But at the end of the day, safety has always been and always will be our top priority. As it should be for all drivers in British Columbia, in Canada, and beyond. Anyone getting behind the wheel of a truck, car, boat, or anything else, needs to make sure that they’re operating their vehicle safely.

We’ve been in operation for over half a century, and have learned and taught our drivers a thing or two about getting from point A to point B safely. It’s why we’re constantly ranked one of the best transport services in BC. Here are some safe driving tips from the professional drivers at Dolphin Delivery.

1. Give yourself time

We always ensure we give ourselves the proper time to get a delivery to where it needs to go safely. This is a tip that all drivers should take to heart. Oftentimes the most drivers are on the road during the busiest weekends when everyone is trying to get away and get out of town, and allowing additional time to get to your destination is going to make your trip safer, more enjoyable, and less stressful. So the next time you’re thinking about a getaway, leave a bit earlier than you need to, and don’t sweat the extra cars on the road.

2. Service your vehicle properly

At Dolphin, we have routine checks that we run on all of our vehicles. This ensures that we are operating top-notch trucks that aren’t going to fail us on the open road. It’s important that you look at your own vehicle the same way if you want to get where you need to go safely. Have a full tank of gas, make sure your battery is charged, check your engine oil before any long trips, and don’t forget the small things. Your washer fluid, your tire pressure, your headlights and taillights, and the condition of any spare tires are all things that you should check from time to time. Treat your car right, and it will treat you right.

3. Pack food and water

We’ve all got our favourite snacks and drinks. Make sure that you stock up before any long trips. The last thing you want is to be stuck in the middle of nowhere with no food or drink, and just as important you should be staying hydrated on any long trips. You’ll be a better driver if you’re not starving or thirsty. If you have any pets with you, extra water is a must. Don’t forget to keep Fido hydrated. He’ll thank you later.

4. Plan a few breaks

On a long trip, it’s a must that you take breaks every few hours so you don’t get tired. Watch for rest areas with adequate bathrooms, food to grab, gas nearby, and maybe even a few things to see along the way. Just because it’s a rest stop doesn’t mean it has to be boring. Use this BC rest areas guide to plan out the stops along your trip

5. Eyes on the road

By eyes on the road, we mean a few things. First, watch out for motorcyclists and share the road with any cyclists safely. These vehicles need a little bit more room, and you should exercise caution when driving near or passing motorcycles. Obey posted speed limits and drive cautiously, especially during fits of bad weather. If you’re driving in the winter, take extra caution and ensure you’re driving with snow tires just in case an unexpected snowfall hits. Lastly, and we must stress this one, do not look at your phone while behind the wheel. Even a quick glance can lead to an accident, and it’s just not worth it. Have a passenger handle the music or set up your navigation before you hit the road, just don’t touch your phone while you’re behind the wheel.

We hope these safe driving tips will help you stay safe on your travels, wherever the road may take you. If you need help with a delivery and want to make sure it gets to its final destination safely, trust the experts at Dolphin Delivery with all your transportation needs.
