How the Supply Chain is Doing in BC

Halloween has only just ended, but consumers and transportation companies are already concerned about the supply chain affecting Christmas shopping in Canada and the USA. Today, ships stuck off the coast of the United States are impacting the global supply chain, as the pandemic’s lasting effects continue to take their toll.

The Supply Chain: In BC, Canada, and the USA

From toy stores to electronic manufacturers, many business owners have raised concerns that there won’t be enough goods, or as many goods as usual, available for the holiday season. This is leading to pricing increases, as Canadians have likely felt already when they visit their local stores. Containers simply aren’t being delivered to some of Canada’s largest ports, and this is impacting everyone. Computers, toys, food, and small parts that make up bigger products are all taking longer than usual to come to market, and reducing the supply crunch remains a top priority for governments around the world – especially in Canada and the US. On a local level, many are worried about the supply chain in BC. We’re working hard to make sure goods are moving quickly.

In a world where we’ve become more than accustomed to ordering something and having it delivered the next day, Canadians are facing increasing delays – whether it’s waiting for 8 months for a sofa, a car colour to come in stock, or simply toilet paper. This is why if your company is having goods delivered, trusting one of the top trucking companies in BC is so critical.

What caused the backup at US ports?

At the beginning of the pandemic, factories were hit hard, and subsequently, shipping companies reduced their schedules in anticipation of a drop in demand for moving goods around the world. This proved to be an error. While demands for certain things – vacations, meals at restaurants, or spa days – did decrease, the demand for many consumer goods actually increased, leaving the world in the situation it is in today. Before the pandemic, sending a container from Shanghai to Los Angeles cost perhaps $2,000. By early 2021, the same journey was fetching as much as $25,000. Scarcity is rampant, and it’s causing prices to rise.

Though scarcity and supply shortages on things like used cars and key goods won’t last forever, it’s likely to remain in place for at least the coming months and into 2022. The need to have goods delivered on time is exactly why trucking is an essential service in Canada. At Dolphin Delivery we’re continuing to move goods for our clients as quickly as possible, shipping across Canada and the USA and maintaining our first-class on-time delivery record. We’ve been in business for over 50 years, and have some of the top trucking company reviews in the country. If you need goods delivered on time this holiday season, contact Dolphin Delivery today.
